British Aerosol Manufacturers’ Association Aerosol containers are pressurized products that sometimes contain flammable or poisonous chemicals. If you dispose of these pressurized containers in the trash, they can be punctured and explode. They can also start a fire or injure sanitation workers, so first use up the entire product. It helps if you can remove any plastic parts that come off easily such as lids.
Over 75% of local authorities collect aerosols in their can banks along with drinks cans or through their kerbside collection schemes. If your local authority does collect aerosols, remember – DO NOT PIERCE THEM OR SQUASH THEM and only put EMPTY AEROSOLS in the collection schemes. Spray any remaining content into a cardboard box and dispose of the box.
