Beverage Cartons have a strong environmental story to tell.
They are made mainly from wood fibre, a natural renewable resource, and are a low carbon packaging choice which can easily be recycled.
The Alliance for Beverage Cartons and the Environment (ACE) UK provides a platform for the industry to profile and benchmark cartons as a renewable, recyclable and low carbon packaging choice, and to drive its environmental initiatives. This includes running the industry’s carton recycling programme.
The UK now has its own beverage carton reprocessing facility, thanks to an agreement between ACE UK and Sonoco. This facility will encourage more local authorities to add beverage cartons to kerbside collections (currently at 62%), making it more convenient for consumers to recycle these valuable resources and, therefore, increasing recycling rates.
